We now have an entire house with walls! Beautiful VJ (vertical join) panels have suddenly made the house feel a whole lot more complete, brighter and tidier. And the lovely blackbutt floorboards are well underway, too.
Of course, the floors and walls are absolutely filthy at the moment, but we’re really starting to get a good feel for the house. We are soooo glad we went with VJs downstairs – I didn’t want the lower area to feel like a half-hearted afterthought, and while I’m slightly gutted we didn’t have higher ceilings – and the bathroom is a bit poky – the walls will go a long way to making the space feel like it’s truly part of the main home.
Upstairs, it’s been all systems go this week on the blackbutt flooring. The guys came so close to finishing it on Friday, but when we peeped in through the windows today, it looks like there’s a tad more that needs to be done on Monday. After that, they’ll move to the downstairs area. The idea is that they’ll get it more or less complete before the Christmas break, which would be a pretty awesome achievement.
Here are some pics of the upstairs flooring – the master bedroom, the study, and the dining room looking through to the kitchen.
The main bathroom is coming along nicely – here are a couple of shots, including the bath insitu!
Externally, the house is looking great too. The painters have made good progress filling holes and puttying, and they’ve also painted the front lower external area. Despite initial reservations about the colour, it’s growing on me (thank goodness for that!). The scaffold has come down finally, which means that we’re now able to see what the house really looks like – and it’s fab!
We are now six months into our build, and the momentum and pace has been remarkable. This shot from only 10 weeks ago, contrasts phenomenally with how it’s looking right now – absolutely worlds apart!!! We are completely stoked!
